Question

''87 300TD Model 124 T (build date 11/86): The vacuum

Sent to Mercedes Experts February 27 1:34 p.m.

''87 300TD Model 124 T (build date 11/86): The vacuum solenoid has failed (engine continues to run after key is turned off, but if you pump rapidly on a hand vacuum pump, you can get ahead of the leak, and the fuel lever moves downward and the fuel is shut off). My question is can the vacuum solenoid (module/box) be removed and replaced, without removing the air intake plenum and other items, seemingly in the way?

Optional Information:
11/86 build date Mercedes-Benz 300TD-Turbo 603 962

Already Tried:
I've applied a vacuum directly to the fuel shut off 'vacuum box', and if I pump rapidly on the hand pump, I can get ahead of the leak, and the fuel lever moves downward and the engine stops, as it should. From this I decided to replace this 'vacuum box', and have part #0 928 400 271 on hand. I'm reluctant to remove all the components above this box, but it appears that it is necessary. Thank you for your advise and experience. Marcgson

My repair system does not mention intake removal. Here is what my system says.Images available only to Customers.

The delay (4 hours) wasn't expected, and the figures shown weren't for the model I am working on, but some of the text was useful, though really didn't address the question. I suspect the expert wasn't familiar with this specific model. I paid because I still found the response useful. Suggest allowing us access to specific mechanics. One of the three mechanics resumes covered my model's year, but before I could check his box, the page disappeared.
